New York, NY
New York a city of 8,008,278 million people. Additionally, if you add in the metropolitan area you get this figure 11,685,650 million people. The largest city in the United States. A city that ranks thirteenth on the World's largest cities list. But, size is not always better!
If you score an IQ of 80 or above you are labeled low average on the IQ scale. For a good definition of IQ scores go here. This would allow you to complete the basic functions of life at a decent level of competency. For instance, crossing a street would be a task you could perform without a problem. With this in mind, refer back to the population of New York City. 16% percent of the World's population is 80 points or lower. That means 1,281,324 people in New York are considered low average or can perform this function with a some level of savy. And not clumsily stumble in front of a raging maniac taxi driver trying to pad his meter at some poor tourist expense.
Now 90 or above on the IQ scale places you in the average level. This means you should realize that beeping your horn at a car that is obviously in your way will yield no reaction to a population so placated by horns to not even turn a head. Ninety to 110 IQ is half the population so that means 4,004,139 New Yorkers should realize this simple fact. Yet they do not.
110 or above places you in the above average percentile. This is 16% percent of the population so that is 1,281,324 people in New York that perform at an above average facility. What does this mean? It means that 16% of the population of New York City ought to realize that you even though they are smart, talking on the phone, chewing gum, and answering emails on your Blackberry at the same time is a task for sitting down. Not a task to be performed as you so akwardly divert all pedestrian traffic out of your way to see if you got a reply message from that girl you met on myspace.
Now in conclusion, I went to lunch today and was outside for an approximately 8 minutes. That is 8 minutes I get to see the outside world and get away from this cublcle. Factoring in our math from above 76% of the people I encountered should have the sense to not do the things were listed. In numbers that is 6,566,787 million people in this city of 8 million should have known. I encountered all three of these things in the small 8 minutes I was outside today.
What does that say about New Yorkers? Are all the 70 IQ and below cleverly following me around the city? Or is the population so badly slanted towards low IQ people that they are everywhere? I am not sure but if anyone who reads this can offer any explanation please tell me.
Ever so frustrated...
